Restaurant Solimar, nestled right on the shores of Platja del Racó in Girona, is a delightful Mediterranean gem that perfectly captures the essence of seaside dining with authenticity and charm. This cozy yet vibrant eatery invites guests to immerse themselves in a culinary experience that feels both intimate and timeless, making each meal a treasured memory by the Mediterranean.
From the moment you take in the soothing sound of gentle waves mingling with the buzz of the beach, Restaurant Solimar enchants with its remarkably fresh, authentic flavors. The standout star here is undeniably the paella, which locals and visitors alike rave about as the best they've ever tasted. Each bite reveals a masterful balance of perfectly cooked rice, succulent seafood, and a symphony of traditional spices that evoke the soul of Catalonia’s coastal heritage. Complementing the paella is the tomato bread—a simple, rustic dish elevated with sun-ripened tomatoes and quality olive oil, delivering a burst of freshness that feels like summer on the tongue.
Eliana Carratala’s long-standing devotion to Solimar speaks volumes: “Love this restaurant. I have been coming since I was born and will always come back on my holidays. The food is amazing and very authentic. The service is excellent.” Her heartfelt words highlight not only the exceptional cuisine but also the warm, welcoming atmosphere that keeps guests returning year after year. The attentive staff add a personal touch, enhancing the dining experience by making guests feel genuinely cared for.
Benito el maestro perfectly sums up the culinary journey: “The food was divine from start to finish. Really recommend the Sole, Paella and Crema Catalana.” The menu’s range—with seafood like the sole and the classic Catalan dessert—offers a well-rounded taste of regional specialties, all crafted with fresh, local ingredients and expert technique. Meanwhile, the prices remain reasonable, providing excellent value for such a memorable meal right beside the Mediterranean Sea.
While most reviews hold the restaurant in high regard, it’s worth noting that late summer service can occasionally feel a bit hurried, and some guests have wished for better pest control measures during the outdoor dining experience. Nevertheless, the overall hospitality remains warm and sincere, with staff doing their best to accommodate and ensure your stay is pleasant.
In sum, dining at Restaurant Solimar is an evocative journey of flavors and ambiance that celebrates Mediterranean culture in its truest form. Whether you’re savoring a perfectly balanced paella, indulging in a rich crema catalana, or simply soaking in the unbeatable beachfront setting, this well-loved Girona institution promises an authentic, heartfelt experience that lingers long after the last bite.

The food was really good, that‘s why we wanted to go there - lots of good reviews. I have made a reservation on the phone but forgot to give them my name and no name=no reservation according to them. They were kind to let us take a table that was apparently free but there were so many insects that it was a nightmare. We just wanted to eat asap and run. A citronella candle or something similar to deter the insects would have made our experience much more enjoyable.

Very nice place and good food and wine. Only the Service seems to have not so much fun in the end of the season. Could be more comfortable with speaking in english. Rest was super good and fair prices.
